A Bit of a Costume Wish List

I almost always have a costume wish list floating around in my mind, which changes often. Some days I'm all about something Regency, other days it's Medieval. Here are a few things I've been dreaming about lately.
I fell in love with this gorgeous costume Gwen wears in the BBC series 'Merlin'. I love the pastel colors and the little embroidered details! I would love to make a replica of this someday!
Back view: I love the lacing and the embroidery!
I've always been in love with Eowyn's Sheildmaiden dress from Lord of the Rings. A friend of mine is making a replica which is turning out gorgeous! You can see her's so far here. Maybe someday I will make this too :)
I would love to make one of these white dresses from Marie Antoinette. They are so gorgeous! And they look so summery!
I need to finish my current Elizabeth Swann costume first, but I've always wanted to make her Island Shift from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
Those are just a few floating around in my mind lately. I have a whole box of fabric for different projects though which I need to use up, so it would be awhile before I make any of these.
What costume are you dreaming of making lately?

Les Miserables

The trailer is out for the new Les Miserables which is coming out in theaters this December and I'm so excited to see it! I went through an obsession with this story when I was about twelve years old, (with the movie and book) I loved the movie with Liam Neeson as Jean Valjean and I can't wait to see Hugh Jackman in the role. Not to mention, it's a musical...and Anne Hatheway is in it. Both of whom have gorgeous voices. I have been waiting for them to do a musical together since they sang together at The Oscars. I am so looking forward to this!
And that is really all I have to say. I will let the photos speak for themselves:

Supplies for Finishing :)

I have been really busy lately so I'm sorry for the lack of posting! My parents were here visiting last week and my mom brought me my beads so now I can finish my Maid Marian dress! She also brought me the leftover dress scrap fabric so I need to decide if I want to make a belt or not. If I do...it's going to be awhile before it's finished. :P
I haven't been doing very well on my challenge have I? I'm already 4 costumes behind. :P Ah well, it has helped me get more done then I think I would have otherwise. And who knows...maybe one of these months before the year is up I'll whip out a ton of costumes. ;) And they don't all have to be big costumes, accessories count too. :)
Below are the supplies I have to finish the dress. I am excited to finish it!

The beads on the left are some I bought while being impatient for my beads to get here, but I think they might be too gold. The beads in the middle are what my mom brought, but now I'm worried there aren't enough of them. The red cord is some suede cord I'm going to use for the lacing in the back and the embroidery floss is to hand sew the eyelets. I think I need a day to watch Robin Hood and work on this!
I am going to have to put working on costumes into my schedule so I will remember to get it done. ;)
Hopefully I will have more to update soon!
What have all of you been working on?

Hello Friends!
I am no longer going to be blogging here on my blog Simple Thread, I have moved to a new blog, 'The Willow Nest' which can be found at www.the-willow-nest.com. I hope you will come and visit me there! You can read a little about this change here.
I will continue costume posts on The Art of Clothes and Pemberley Couture will be turned back into a costume gallery of finished costumes. All other posts will from now on be posted on my new blog.
I look forward to seeing you there!

Inspiration

I needed a little inspiration to work on my Maid Marian dress, so I was looking for pictures, and ran across this close up of her beading. I wish I had found this before I started the beading on my dress! Oh well I still like mine...but someday maybe I will make a more detailed neckline. I think hers is so pretty!
I got some new knitting gadgets in the mail the other day so I am distracted by those but I'm really going to try to get some work done on this dress this week! Maybe I can finish it before the end of the month!? All except some beading that will have to wait for my mom to bring my beads in May.
I already have ideas floating around my head for more costumes so I can't wait to finish this one!

Merlin

My husband and I recently started watching the TV series Merlin and although at first I wasn't too into it (I don't like the creepy parts) I'm sort of hooked now and can't wait to see what happens next. The characters are growing on me as well, not to mention the costumes are really awesome! It's also interesting to watch the story of King Arthur through Merlin's eyes while they are still young and before Arthur is king. It's an interesting take on the story.

The girls costumes are so pretty! I love Morgana's wardrobe, and this costume is amazing:

I also really like Gwen! She is so sweet!
And how pretty is this?

I am enjoying watching it in the evenings while I work on my knitting and Britton is there to tell me when not to look for the creepy parts. (or fast forward through spiders...yuck) But overall it's fun to have a series to watch together with costumes and fun characters! I feel so behind on this, I just realized it's been around since 2008 and there are five seasons of it! Where have I been!?
Have any of you seen it? What do you think about it?

Disclaimer:

Although I continually talk about movie costumes on this blog, I am not a movie reviewer. Not all the films I discuss are recommended and I do not choose to review weather they are appropriate or not for the simple fact that every person's standards are different. Something that is fine for me may be offensive to some one else and visa versa. If you would like to look into the appropriateness of a title, I recommend pluggedinonline.com. I have not seen all the movies I discuss, and am simply interested in the art of clothes in film. I will leave you to decide for yourself if you will watch the movie or not.
