Ahoy!

Every summer when the weather warms up I get into such a pirate mood and want to go out and play with swords and ride in boats. Er...ships, rather. ;)
Here are a few pirate shirts I've been itching to make. Maybe I'll get around to one of them this summer.
I love Will Turner's musty Burgundy shirt from At World's End.
And how about a Dread Pirate Roberts shirt? Every good pirate needs one!

This isn't really a pirate but it's an awesome piratey shirt...I'm in love with Prince Caspian's shirt:

Look at that cartridge pleating! This would be one of those time consuming projects that will take awhile but I'm crazy enough to actually do. Weather I finish or not...well...;)

Or how about an awesome Crusoe shirt?

And then there's the girlie dresses and such...Would love to make some more of Elizabeth Swann's costumes! Which reminds me...I'm in great need of a Pirates marathon to finish my Elizabeth Swann corset!

I'm currently working on the last costume study for season 1 of Robin Hood, featuring the heroic outlaw himself! Sorry if it's taking awhile...this boy has a lot of clothes believe it or not! It's taking awhile to sort them all out...but they sure are cool! And I can't wait to start on season 2! There's some really awesome costumes in this series!

Alright...off to do some cleaning and hopefully work on my short stays later. I may just be altering an old dress for the Jane Austen tea as the holiday weekend has got me way behind on my sewing goals. But the short stays are a must!

Medieval Sleeves

Way back when I first got into my Maid Marian mood I started a Medieval project. So far I have one sleeve done...which took me almost 2 seasons of Robin Hood to finish. haha Either I'm slow or crazy. ;)
I took a fitted sleeve pattern and cut out a piece of muslin and a piece if batting. I cut the batting in half and folded the muslin in half over it and pinned it in place.

Then I traced 1" squares diagonal across the entire piece with disappearing ink.

Then I quilted on the lines. I figured out I could get one half sleeve quilted in about 4 episodes of Robin Hood.

Then 23 hand sewn eyelets down one side:

Make another one and then lace them together down the middle and sew the seams together, here I laced it with Jute:

I also tried lacing it with crochet cotton to see what it looked like:

Now I need to make two more to have sleeve number two. :) I'm still not exactly sure what the rest of the dress will look like. I'm having fun just making it up as I go along. But I have the overdress almost completely planned. Whoop whoop! I can't wait! :)

Lazy Summer Days

The warm weather has come...and all I can think of is landscaping and making smoothies and reading in the shade.

Makes me wish I had a Marie Antoinette dress finished so I could have a picnic.

Well, Regency will have to do as the tea is almost here! I'm almost finished with my short stays and then I'll start my dress. I do seem to save things for the last minute all the time. *sigh*

I tell you, polyvore is addicting! This set was inspired by Maid Marian played by the lovely Lucy Griffiths.
To the left shows her style at the castle, more feminine and jewelry from Sir Guy of Gisborne. To the right shows her Sherwood Forest side, where her heart truly lies, with Robin Hood.

I've had a polyvore account for forever and I play around on it occasionally...but I never actually finished a set. Today I was inspired by girlish daydreams and fairy tales and this is what emerged.

Little John Costume Study

Robin Hood Season One

Little John, played by Gordon Kennedy, is known for his strength and stature. Everything about his costume makes him look strong and tough.

Undershirt/Vest:

Little John's undershirt looks as though it could be made of knit. Almost like a t-shirt with the sleeves cut off. :)

Shirt:

He wears a basic tunic shirt like most of the gang.

Waistcoat/Jerkin:

Little John's jerkin is made of sturdy fabric and has silver studs along the neck and front opening:

The front is clasped together with chain links:

I can't tell what fabric it's made of:

Leather Coat

The costume designer said she found a leather for Little John's coat that looks like the bark of a tree.

Padded strips on the shoulders and along the neck and down the front with silver studs give him an extra tough look:

Padding is the same at the sleeves:

Hood

Little John wears a couple of hoods. The first looks as though it could be made of wool:

It fits like an ordinary cape, fastening at the throat with a tie:

The second looks like it's also made of wool but it connects under the chin, the hood is a circular piece, fits like a pullover hoodie/poncho:

That's it for Little John. :) I think the pictures explain a lot for themselves. There's so much detail in his costume, it's hard to describe. But I think it's pretty awesome. I love his leather pouch. I want to make some leather pouches one of these days when I get my hands on some leather.

Jane's White Muslin

I'm pretty sure I've decided I'm going to make Jane's lovely white muslin dress from the 2005 Pride and Prejudice for my mum's Jane Austen tea.

I've always been in love with this dress and since I have a whole bolt of muslin, it seems like a good time to try out that lovely crossover gown pattern I got for my birthday. :)I still need to make my underpinnings. (get with it Anna!)

I'll be completely honest...I'd really like to wear this costume to the tea:

But I have a feeling mother wouldn't approve. ;) But seriously...isn't Wickham just dashing? Even if he is wicked. :) "I think a man looks nothing without Regimentals." ;)

Hmm....one day I'll make some men's costumes.
