Snow White Patterns

Simplicity just released two patterns based on the Snow White movies that have come out this past year. First, Snow White and The Huntsman, which I have yet to see but I think the costumes look amazing!

Simplicity 1773 (purchase here) is an awesome looking replica of the costume. And also includes a costume for the Queen.

The other pattern is for the blue dress from Mirror Mirror.

Simplicity 1728 is a less detailed version but still gives you the same look and could be modified if you wanted it to be really accurate. (purchase here)
I hope you are all having a great week!

New Moon: Jane

I finally ran across some official pictures of Jane, played by Dakota Fanning, in New Moon. I think her cloak is really cool!

It reminds me of a "Coachman's coat" from a Dicken's film or something. And her mary janes are so cute. :)

This is the Jane promo picture that I'm not sure is from the movie or not. It doesn't look like any of the other pictures of Jane but I thought it was cool anyway. :)
I'm not a big fan of Jane (all the Volturi give me the creeps) But her costume is so cool. Probably the closest we've seen of "costume" in these movies so far, besides Victoria's cape.

And one more picture of Bella and Jacob. Because we love Jacob. :)

November...hurry up.

"Alice" Patterns

I was browsing around for some Alice looking patterns and although none of these are exactly like her dress in the film, they had a Alice like quality that I couldn't resist and could be easily used to make her dress or one inspired by hers.

This one can be bought HERE.

If your interested in the rick rack skirt outfit, check out my friend AnnaMae's blog, Confessions of a Costume Addict. She's working on replicating it! It's going to be amazing!

New Moon Pics

I can hardly wait for New Moon to come out. :) I ran across these picture on Costumers Guide and just had to share them in case there are any other Twilight fans out there. :)

These two pics are my favorite of Bella and Jacob, I love the one when he's walking behind her. Cool shot. :)

Can't wait to get a better look at Bella's party dress. That green fabric looks divine.

And then of course Alice is always dressed adorably...she and Jasper are so cute. :)

I'm super excited for this to come out. I just finished reading through the book for the second time. I can't wait to see how they do the scenes in Italy in the movie. :)

I found pictures of Dakota Fanning as Jane awhile back which looked awesome...if they were real. It's hard sometimes to sort real out from fan made stuff sometimes so I'm not going to post about it until I'm sure it's what she looks like. :)

Underpinnings :)

I'm so in love with Maria's underpinnings in The Secret of Moonacre. I finally watched this movie on YouTube awhile back because it seems like they aren't going to release it in the US and I got tired of waiting. It was a bit of a disappointment as it strayed quite a lot from the book, which I loved. But it was still worth watching for all the amazing costumes!

I just love all the different fabrics that look quite vintage:
I also love her blue corset. Inspires me to finish my corset...I know I know...I say that a lot. ;)

Anyway...I'm quite obsessed with underpinnings already but I thought these were really awesome and different. :) I think it would be so fun to have an underpinnings tea party one of these days. Underpinnings are just so pretty and it's such a shame they don't get to be seen. Well I hope you all are having a great Summer so far! I'm pretty busy helping some friends get ready for a wedding this week so I wont be sewing or posting much. Have a lovely week!

Reference photos for Aimee and Chelsea

I know I just did an Alice in Wonderland post but my sister and her friend might have me make them costumes from the movie so I thought I'd do another one for them so they can see all the characters and pick who they want to be. :) So...this is for you Aimee and Chelsea!

Click on the pictures to see them bigger.

Alice
Alice wears a couple different dresses. Her dress she falls down the rabbit hole in is really sweet, made of a sheer like fabric:
She wears striped fingerless gloves (my favorite of her accessories so far):

Her hem is embroidered with forest animals and flowers:

At some point she wears this outfit that is a blouse, waistcoat, skirt and tie:

The skirt is rows and rows of rick rack:
Blue coat:The Mad Hatter

In this photo you can see he wears a thimble on his right hand as well as green nail polish, a colorful bow tie, green lace top hat with satin trim and several odd hat pins sticking into it:
The Mad Hatter wears a frock coat, breeches, a cool belt made of thread spools. Plaid gloves, pink handkerchief, and it looks like his left thumb is bandaged up. Also look at those lace cuffs!

The Queen of Hearts "The Red Queen"
The Red Queen wears a Shakespeare looking dress with lots of jewels and pearls decorating the front bodice, a red skirt with heart detail, lots of heart rings, gold lace up boots, and amazing tights which you can purchase HERE.
The White Queen
The white Queen is all in white and silver except for her contrasting dark eyebrows, deep red lips and nails to match. Her costume reminds me of a ballet costume:

Tweedledee and Tweedledum
They wear striped shirts, red suspenders, short breeches and striped socks and it looks like buckle shoes:

So, that's all I have of the characters for now...let me know who you think you want to be. :)
And here's the trailer in case you need more inspiration:

New Nanny McPhee

A new Nanny McPhee is in the making starring Emma Thompson, Ralph Fiennes, Maggie Smith, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. It's called "Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang". The thing I'm super excited about though is that Jaqueline Durran is doing the costumes! (costume designer for 2005 Pride and Prejudice, Atonement) I can't wait to see what she comes up with. I know it will be wonderful. :) It's set to release in Europe in spring of 2010. I have yet to find the US release date, if there will even be one. But as soon as I find pictures I'll do a post about it. :)
Here's some pictures of the first Nanny McPhee, costumes designed by Nic Ede (designer for Flyboys, Lorna Doone)

I'm sure Jaqueline Durran will do just as wonderful of a job...I'm looking forward to it.

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

I've been pouring over photos of this film for months and I realized it's beyond time to do a post about it. First off, I'm excited because it's a Tim Burton film and I love most of his films. Second, Johnny Depp is in it...who I'm also a big fan of. And third, it has amazing costumes designed by the amazing Colleen Atwood (costume designer for A Series of Unfortunate Events, Big Fish, Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow, just to name a few) Oh, and some of it was filmed in Cornwall England which is sort of my second home...so that's pretty cool. :)
So...here are a few of my favorite outfits so far...
It seems like Alice (played by Mia Wasikowska) wears lots of bluish tones. I love her dress here with it's delicate puffed sleeves, sheer ruffled neckline and tiny black buttons down the front. My favorite thing is her little striped fingerless gloves. I seriously want some!

I adore this outfit...she's still wearing the fingerless gloves, an amazing rick rack skirt, delicate blouse, fitted waistcoat and tie.

Anne Hatheway is playing The White Queen and I think she looks amazing!

I'm so excited for this to come out! It's set to release March 5, 2010.

Ahoy!

Every summer when the weather warms up I get into such a pirate mood and want to go out and play with swords and ride in boats. Er...ships, rather. ;)
Here are a few pirate shirts I've been itching to make. Maybe I'll get around to one of them this summer.
I love Will Turner's musty Burgundy shirt from At World's End.
And how about a Dread Pirate Roberts shirt? Every good pirate needs one!

This isn't really a pirate but it's an awesome piratey shirt...I'm in love with Prince Caspian's shirt:

Look at that cartridge pleating! This would be one of those time consuming projects that will take awhile but I'm crazy enough to actually do. Weather I finish or not...well...;)
Or how about an awesome Crusoe shirt?
I love those billowing sleeves!
I love the color of this one:
And then there's the girlie dresses and such...Would love to make some more of Elizabeth Swann's costumes! Which reminds me...I'm in great need of a Pirates marathon to finish my Elizabeth Swann corset!
Don't forget...if you are just dying for a pirate shirt this summer I take custom orders in my SHOP. I'm happy to machine sew or hand sew a shirt for you!
I'm currently working on the last costume study for season 1 of Robin Hood, featuring the heroic outlaw himself! Sorry if it's taking awhile...this boy has a lot of clothes believe it or not! It's taking awhile to sort them all out...but they sure are cool! And I can't wait to start on season 2! There's some really awesome costumes in this series!
Alright...off to do some cleaning and hopefully work on my short stays later. I may just be altering an old dress for the Jane Austen tea as the holiday weekend has got me way behind on my sewing goals. But the short stays are a must!

I hope you all had a lovely weekend!

Disclaimer:

Although I continually talk about movie costumes on this blog, I am not a movie reviewer. Not all the films I discuss are recommended and I do not choose to review weather they are appropriate or not for the simple fact that every person's standards are different. Something that is fine for me may be offensive to some one else and visa versa. If you would like to look into the appropriateness of a title, I recommend pluggedinonline.com. I have not seen all the movies I discuss, and am simply interested in the art of clothes in film. I will leave you to decide for yourself if you will watch the movie or not.
