I love the costumes in the 1982 film, The Scarlett Pimpernel starring Anthony Andrews, Jane Seymour and a very young Ian McKellen. Quite suprising for an 80's film, the costumes are splendid!
I love this redingote:
Reminds me of the dark blue one in The Duchess.

Disclaimer:
Although I continually talk about movie costumes on this blog, I am not a movie reviewer. Not all the films I discuss are recommended and I do not choose to review weather they are appropriate or not for the simple fact that every person's standards are different. Something that is fine for me may be offensive to some one else and visa versa. If you would like to look into the appropriateness of a title, I recommend pluggedinonline.com. I have not seen all the movies I discuss, and am simply interested in the art of clothes in film. I will leave you to decide for yourself if you will watch the movie or not.
You know you are the first blogger I've read that has since that version of The Scarlet Pimpernel and liked it!! It is one of my favorite films and Baroness Orzcy is one of my fave authors.
ReplyDeleteI agree the costumes are lovely :)
Those darn Frenchies! Sink Me!
Thanks for sharing your pics ^____^
Thanks for this post. I'll look forward to renting the movie.
ReplyDeleteAs pretty as Jane Seymour is, I loved the book so much better -- it made me really irritated how the movie had a different ending.
ReplyDeleteBut, as you say, the costumes are quite nice.
Ah! I love the Scarlet Pimpernel! we grew up watching this one...haven't seen it for years though.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything objectionable in this version?
