Lost in Austen

I just finished watching 'Lost in Austen' with my mom. I confess I didn't like it very much as they twisted the Pride and Prejudice storyline waaay to far. But it was quite funny in some parts and I loved the costumes.
I loved this spencer that Elizabeth Bennet wears...which reminds me of the one Jane wears in the A&E Pride and Prejudice when she gets caught in the rain on the way to Netherfield:
I just think it's darling:
Bingley looking dashing in his high collar and cravat:
I also fell head over heels in love with the bonnet Amanda Price wears. I'm so tempeted to try and make one. :)
I loved Amanda's spencer as well...when I have more time I'll look for better pictures of it. I just love those sleeves. :)
So now I'm in such a costuming mood. I feel like I haven't worked on something historic in ages. haha I guess it's only been something like a week. See how addicting it is!? :)

  1. Awe, cute! I love that last spencer! I think its pretty silly that everyone has to make pride and prejudice over and over again.. no matter how much they change it, it will always be silly! indeed, if they left the story with no changing at all, THEN we would have something to watch! "Silly things do cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way." very well said by Jane Austen her self! HA!

  2. I actually liked Lost in Austen. Yes it was very much changed from the original Pride and Prejudice but I just accepted it as an entirely new story. I do get where you're coming from though. I thought that there were parts that were absolutely hilarious and some dull parts but I must agree the costumes are fabulous.

  3. Reading through life, Yeah, I think maybe if I had watched it expecting it to be different I would have liked it better. I think I just had an idea of what it was supposed to be and then it wasn't so I was a bit shocked. Maybe I'd like it better a second time. It was pretty funny though!

  4. Ya before I saw it the first time I had read a review on it so I knew going in how different it was from Pride and Prejudice.

  5. Did you get it from the library? I think I have the next hold on it!

Jen and I love the part where she says "will you do something for me" and then he comes up dripping wet from the lake! :D

  7. Actually, both the bonnet and the spencer was worn by Jennifer Ehle as Elisabeth Bennet in A&Es 1995 production Pride and Prejudice, and there's a lot of other re-used costumes in Lost in Austen. If you are interested, there's a site dedicated to nothing but costumes used over and over again in different productions, at recycledmoviecostumes.com :)

  8. Loved everything about this series. Especially loved Amanda's purple shirt, and the dark dress Wickham buys her. Gorgeous.

    1. I agree! It took me a little bit to warm up to it but I like this series much better the second time watching it. I think the first time I was expecting something else so I was dissapointed. ;)

Although I continually talk about movie costumes on this blog, I am not a movie reviewer. Not all the films I discuss are recommended and I do not choose to review weather they are appropriate or not for the simple fact that every person's standards are different. Something that is fine for me may be offensive to some one else and visa versa. If you would like to look into the appropriateness of a title, I recommend pluggedinonline.com. I have not seen all the movies I discuss, and am simply interested in the art of clothes in film. I will leave you to decide for yourself if you will watch the movie or not.
